Rosette Ruth Reisman, AuD, MBA, CCC-A

Founder of Urban Hearing

Dr. Reisman is a licensed audiologist in New York, Florida, and Bermuda, with over a decade of experience working across multiple sectors. She currently supports the field of Audiology as a full time as a university doctoral lecturer, as well a private audiology practitioner. In her private practice, Dr. Reisman assesses and rehabilitates all forms of hearing and balanced deficits with a focus on auditory processing disorders.  She specializes in individuals with Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder AD(H)D and other co-morbid disorders.

Her interest in working with AD(H)D began during her doctoral research, which focused on diagnostic assessments with this population. Characteristics of the disorder make it difficult to get accurate hearing measurements both objectively and subjectively. However, she was adamant about finding methods to evaluate and treat this population despite the challenges they have with auditory attention and communication deficits. Dr. Reisman has found that through auditory therapy and communication planning, we can improve attention, behaviors, and social-emotional skills. 

Although her years of experience have allowed her to work with children who have AD(H)D, her expertise in this area comes from a more personal place. Having been married to a spouse and raising two children with ADHD, she has witnessed first-hand the challenges and stressors that this developmental disorder can create for a family as well as the individual. Dr. Reisman has also learned the importance of using communication strategies to alleviate the symptoms and change the behaviors that accompany this deficit.

Janie Morales, AuD, CCC-A

Co-founder of Urban Hearing

Dr. Morales is a licensed audiologist and hearing aid dispenser in the states of New York, California, and Florida. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology as a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Twenty years ago, she entered the field as a speech therapist, where she worked with preschool-age children for five years. Ultimately, she decided to change careers and pursue the field of audiology. In 2011, she graduated from the City University of New York Graduate Center with a Doctorate degree in Audiology.

She has clinical experience with newborns through the geriatric population, diagnostic audiological evaluations, evaluation and treatment of vestibular disorders, hearing aids, FM systems, electrophysiological assessments, auditory processing evaluations, and treatment. While appropriate diagnosis is essential, her passion within the field has always been in the areas of rehabilitation. Being able to provide treatment options and/or the appropriate referrals to her patients has always been an important aspect of the continuity of care that Dr. Morales provides to her patients.

When she is not helping patients, Dr. Morales enjoys spending her free time with her husband and three children. She is often found on the sidelines watching her children play sports, volunteering on the PTA board at her kids’ elementary school, training for her dream to one day run in the NYC marathon, and spending time with her large extended family and an incredible circle of friends.

Our Story

Dr. Reisman and Dr. Morales have undergone extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of auditory processing disorders. This is an area in which they are passionate as this disorder hits close to home for each of them. As parents of children with APD, they can relate to the families and individuals who they work with. They understand all too well how easy it is for children to be misunderstood as not paying attention when, in fact, there is a disturbance with how their brains are processing the information around them.

Dr. Reisman and Dr. Morales graduated from The CUNY Graduate Center together and have remained close friends. They even worked together for three years and always dreamed of opening a private practice together. That dream became a reality when they both realized that they each had suspected their own children of struggling with APD.

The lack of providers specializing in the treatment of auditory processing disorders was all the motivation they needed to decide they would be the ones to make changes so that other families would have somewhere to turn. Urban Hearing was established to focus solely on auditory processing disorders. They have committed their entire practice to walking alongside their patients on their journey from diagnosis to rehabilitation.
